Process & Pricing

Our Process

We believe it’s important to create an open, meaningful working relationship with like-minded clients. Working collaboratively brings original thinking and invites innovation, ensuring that each project is unique and hits a high note. Beth leads the process to make sure the path is well-managed, and the outcome is a result of client goals and in context with functional project parameters.

After our initial meeting, we present a Fee Proposal for your consideration and approval. Each stage of the following design processes will include milestone meetings for client approval before proceeding to the next stage. We work closely with our construction and vendor partners to develop realistic costing, and ensure that everyone is aligned before moving forward. Our clients have peace of mind, knowing they are an essential part of the process.

Discovery | Project Plan | Design Concept | Design Development | FF&E | Documentation | Contract Administration

A Discovery meeting enables us to better understand where you have come from and uncover your aspirational goals. Together with the construction partner, we prepare a Project Plan that outlines the roadmap which includes budget and timelines. Consulting Engineers may be required and become a part of the process. The Design Concept is a loose visual presentation of our creative ideas. Design Development dives further into what your space will look like and what elements will be included. Furniture and equipment are identified and specified. Contract Documentation drawings are prepared by Wondrland, as well as by the Consulting Engineers and Architect. In the Contract Administration stage, Permits for City approval are obtained and furniture is procured. Wondrland works with the Construction team to ensure that your project is built according to the design and standards shown in our drawings and schedules.

Our Pricing

Our professional fees are competitive, and tend to make up only a small percentage of the total project cost. The client budget, scope of work, level of detail and finishing, and current market conditions drive overall cost. Our hourly rates and fee schedule are included with project proposals. Small projects may work on an hourly fee basis only.

FAQs

Why should I hire you?

We design special, distinctive interiors. Our clients tell me they enjoy working with our team and feel like they are a part of the process. Through decades of experience, we’ve learned how to ask the right questions and take you to the place that you’ve been waiting to experience.

How do we start?

I like to have an initial phone conversation to chat and answer questions you may have. We’ll get a sense of your project and schedule to see if we’re the right fit foreach other. We would then meet in person at your home or place of business to discuss your project goals and parameters. We’ll then send you a tailored fee proposal, or, for trusted clients or small projects, an agreement to work on an hourly fee basis.

Does Wondrland have a design style?

Our work is tailored to you. We do our best to avoid the same “look” from project to project because we want your space to uniquely shine. I tend to favour more expressive design in whichever style and direction we go.

How much will I spend?

You will spend as much as your budget allows, given realistic cost estimates. After Wondrland is retained, we will work with a General Contractor or Project Manager to provide you with a high-level budget. We’ll advise you of typical costs involved with your scope of project, including things like consultant fees and permits. It is advisable to set aside a contingency sum to protect you from going over your budget, or encountering unexpected costs. As the project progresses, we’ll be able to refine the costs.

What if I only have a small project or a single room?

We are delighted to work with good people. For residential projects, our fee begins at $5,000, which could include custom millwork design, re-planning, furniture selection or most any interior work. For commercial projects, our fee begins at $8,000 and could include space planning, concept design, sourcing ergonomic furniture or developing a strategic direction.

Who will build the project?

It depends. You may have your own contractor in mind, or are looking to us to advise. For small to medium sized projects, we recommend a Construction Management method with a trusted, experienced provider. For large projects, we would manage a competitive tender for the work.

What about furniture?

This is another time where hiring the right person is key and goes far beyond style. Understanding ergonomics, materiality, sustainability, longevity, cost and time management will provide value and support your investment for years to come.
